Information collected when you post
You can read and post reviews without logging in. When you post, we collect your display name, contact email, home address, form answers and comments. Your display name appears with your review. It is optional; if left blank, we assign, store and display a random name.
Email addresses are stored encrypted and can be viewed only by authenticated administrators. We use them to check posts and respond to enquiries, not for public display or advertising. We do not verify that the email belongs to the reviewer. Contact details supplied in a dispute are also stored encrypted.
How addresses are handled and shown
We store submitted addresses in encrypted form. We also store a one-way representation so searches can determine whether reviews refer to the same home.
Public pages show the street name and an approximate location, such as “around the 3400 block.” We do not show the exact street number, unit number or postal code. Address search can check whether reviews exist for an entered address. The street name or review details may still reveal the home, so this does not make it impossible to identify.
Address suggestions and map data
To show address suggestions and select an area, we send the address as you type it to a BC address lookup service. You can also type an address without choosing a suggestion.
To locate an area on the map, we send an address near the centre of the public block, not the home’s exact address. Map circles show an approximate area, not a home or lot. Homes in the same area are grouped.
Maps use OpenStreetMap tiles. When you view a map, the tile provider receives requests for the visible area along with your IP address and browser information.
Cookies and abuse prevention
To prevent abusive posts and duplicate submissions, we use a cookie that identifies the browser used to post. It lasts 30 days. We store only a one-way representation of the identifier in our database. We create similar abuse-prevention data from email addresses and connection IP addresses.
When you mark a review as helpful for a housing decision, we save a separate browser cookie for one year. For each review we store a one-way browser identifier, any topic you choose and the time sent, so responses from the same browser are not counted twice. We cannot detect duplicates if you delete the cookie or use another browser. Total counts and individual topics appear publicly only after each has at least three responses. Individual submission times and reader identifiers are not public. Counts do not represent unique people or housing outcomes.
Administrator login information
Administrators sign in with Google. Account identifiers and email addresses are stored in a one-way form.
Why we use this information
We use this information to group reviews for the same home, check submissions, prevent abuse, respond to enquiries and disputes, and improve the service. We do not sell personal information for advertising.
Automatic translation of public reviews
We may use Cloudflare Workers AI to translate published review comments and approved replies from property representatives into the reader’s display language. We store the result to avoid translating the same text repeatedly. Unpublished posts, contact email addresses and exact home addresses are not sent for translation.
Machine translations can contain errors. Readers can switch to the original. We assess posts and disputes against the original text, not the translation.
Storage and protection
We restrict access to information and protect it through encryption and activity logs. Encryption keys and other secrets are managed separately from stored data.
When login or personal information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it after any period required for legal compliance or service operations.
Questions about your personal information
To request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal information, or to raise a concern or complaint about its handling, contact the Privacy Officer: sumumae@outlook.com
Depending on your request, we may ask for information needed to verify your identity.
